SØRØYA

Sørøya is called the "green eye of the north" because of the intense green color in summer. We were there one day and went on an unforgettable hink where we swam on one of the most beautiful beaches (perhaps the coldest too :P) Read more below.

How to get to Sørøya?

We took the ferry from Øksfjord to Hasvik, it was free. You can find the timetable here. Sørøya is in a sense divided in 2, it is impossible to drive around the island. We only visited the west side, if you want to visit the east side you can take the ferry from Hammerfest.

Hiking to Sørsandfjorden - a must do!

It was a fantastically easy hike, we spent about an hour each way. The beach is completely white and there is absolutely incredible nature around! The entire fjord is a nature reserve. Therefore, burning fires is not permitted.

To get to Sørsandfjord you drive from Hasvik past Breivikbotn to Breivik. Drive a few meters past the exit for Breivik, and you will come to a car park on the right side of the road.

Sandvika - beach

On the way back to Hasvik, we stopped by Sandvika beach, there were several people swimming and sunbathing. We just had to throw ourselves into the bright blue water.
